Day 365-It’s a Wrap!!!

365 photos (366 if you count New Year’s Eve last year) in a row and I’m elated to say the Daily Photo is done; I can’t wait to not post a photo tomorrow night! Loaded some film up in the old Pentax Spotmatix (pictured) and Agfa Silette (not pictured) shortly before midnight and plan on shooting at least a roll through each before turning the digital camera on again. I’m not sick of photography, quite the opposite, just tired of taking a posting a photo each and everyday when my heart hasn’t really been in it much these past couple months. A little film work and less time in front of the computer will do me good.

So now that the Daily Photo, originally a good idea, has come to a close I’ll have more time to focus on my work. Besides catching up with some survey work and what looks to be some new clients in other areas I’ve a darkroom to start managing. 2011 was a far better year than I had planned and 2012 is already shaping up to better as far as business goes. Either way any year than I’m on the right side of the ground is a good year for me…I did have a close call on the highway just a couple weeks back, but I’m a lucky guy. Hope all of you get a little luck when you need it as well, Happy New Year everyone.

Check back in a week or two as I plan to have the new site up, ’til then things will be looking pretty dormant as I get everything ready to go online.

Day 364-One To Go

I rather like this shot, but I’m not going to try and explain. Something would get lost in translation and it drives me crazy when people get all stuffy with themselves over what they “see” in a particular work of art. Plus it’d be a pretty good stretch to call this shot art; I’ll just call it odd, and I like it.

Day 363-Almost Done

Only two more posts left and it’s a wrap…I can’t wait! Pictured above is my pre-celebration drink. I’d like to do something neat, a year in review go out with a bang sort of thing, but I won’t promise much. I just about took a snapshot of my socks tonight if that gives you any idea about how much time I felt like devoting to this post. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been fun this year and some photos I’ve really worked for, but it’s ran its course and it’s time for the Daily Photo to come to an end, and the end is near…oh so near. I can’t wait ’til Sunday, I think I won’t even turn my camera on…ahh yes, that’ll be the day indeed.

Day 362-The Natural History of the Chicken

To go an entire year without informing my readers of this wonderful documentary would be nothing short of travesty. It’s one of my favorite docs to watch, second only to Dogtown and Z-Boys (the documentary, not the movie). It’s on Netflix for streaming (you’ll notice tonights photo is of my TV set, forgive the quality) and probably available in a few other places as well. I know I mentioned it in passing once or twice earlier this year, but it bears repeating….watch it, and unless you’re rigid as a board you’ll be highly entertained. Trust me.

Day 361-Year of the Dog

It was a year ago today we took this little guy home, and sure glad we did. I’m not one of those crazy dog people whose identity, or overall purpose in life for that matter, would be lost without their four-legged companion, but I have to admit I’ve a bigger soft spot for our dog than I initially thought I would. He’s been more than good and never had a single problem with him in the house or out…well, no problems if you turn a blind eye to his seemingly short memory of porcupines and how little they enjoy being treated as chew toys. Either way we’re happy, it’s been a good year with our new dog. I doubt he’d argue that fact; even if he could.

Day 360-December 26th?

Yup, no joke or photoshop trickery here, yet another warm December day. For all the wrong (weather) reasons this will certainly be a December to remember. Supposed to freeze up again tonight making everything an ice rink for the umpteenth time this year before getting just a few inches of snow. Argh.

Day 359-Merry Christmas

Not having much of a winter this year so we figured why not enjoy a Christmas walk along the shore at Bete de Grise beach. Beautiful in a dreary sort of way, but beautiful nonetheless.

Day 358-Italian Hall

To this day many still argue over the events that played out here nearly a century ago. I think that’s missing the point; arguing won’t bring anyone back and doesn’t show much respect to those who lost their lives in such a horrific manner. Taking a quiet moment to reflect back, to remember those men, women, and children who spent their final moments here seems time better spent.

Seeing as I’m staying in town for the holidays I’m watching a couple of friends’ places. One of those friends has a couple of kitties, and one of those kitties was patient enough to pose for me tonight. He’s a natural.

Day 356-Bizarre

Long story short is I got this bizarre poster wrapped around a CD that was dropped off for me to work on. I couldn’t help but be amused, same goes for my girlfriend…she laughed hard enough to snort. Ahhh, that’s all I’m going to say about it, I’d hate to give any more acknowledgement than I’ve already to this crazy poster.
